About

Earthmonkeymama is the parenting blog site for a mother of two inventive little boys, who is also a longtime fiction writer and communications consultant whose fascination with parenting has led to a new profession as an educator.

What began as increasing interest in why my own kids do the funny things they do, and how families are most successful at building healthy relationships, reached an all new level when combined with the intensive courses needed to convert my prior English and Writing degree into qualification to sit for exams for teaching certification.  Let’s just say, those teachers you see every day are processing a thousand details a minute, compared to what we might otherwise have expected!

I remain unabashedly charmed with the natural, chaotic impulses of my boys, but combine this here with reflections on what makes certain parenting moments go well… or not so well.  I pass along any lessons learned that seem, well, worth passing along.  As parents so often do when together, I’ll share some of the resources I encounter that I have found most meaningful.

Oh!  Why “earthmonkeymama”?  Strictly speaking, Chinese zodiac and feng shui dub me (and one of my sons) born in the Year of the Monkey, with the elemental sign earth.  As mom, it fits my philosophy: a monkey’s silly spontaneity, curiosity and cleverness, too, with both feet grounded on the earth.

I’d be glad to make connections:  Use the subscribe function to subscribe to my blog.  Comments are turned on for most articles.  Or, contact me using the Contact page on this site to send an email, or find earthmonkeymama on twitter.  As I read amazing blogs from fellow parents, I share links to their sites in my links!

Thanks for visiting,
earthmonkeymama
